What is SCRIP?
SCRIP is a national program that any organization may participate, in which gift certificates are purchased in bulk from national and local merchants. Because the certificates are purchased in large quantities, the merchant offers them to the organization at a discounted price (determined by the merchant). In turn, the organization sells these certificates to their constituents at the full face value. The organization retains the discount.
SCRIP is a term that means, "substitute money".
When you purchase SCRIP, you're purchasing gift certificates and prepaid gift cards that are used just like cash. You can use SCRIP to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, gas, and other essentials.
SCRIP is "No Selling Fund raising"
The merchants donate all of the money (in the form of a discount) to the school. Companies participate in the program because they want to help the community and promote their business. By purchasing gift cards from SCRIP and using them for your regular purchases, you actually help the school as well as yourself. There is no need to buy any extras or spend money that would not normally be spent!
How does SCRIP benefit you?
When you purchase gift cards from SCRIP, the discounted amount of each card is split: The school retains half and the other half goes toward your tuition account. These "credits" are applied to your tuition statement quarterly.
SCRIP is convenient for families. Over 65 national and local merchants, including all of the area's grocery stores, participate in the program. Thus, a wide variety of choices are available. Ordering is very easy (see "purchasing SCRIP") and most certificates are available for immediate possession.
Budgeting is easier with SCRIP. Families may plan out in advance their spending by purchasing gift cards.
