Elementary Music Teacher

1. General Job Description: Partner with the Administration and Board of Manhattan Christian School to “Inspire students to live God-glorifying lives by teaching Christ’s Lordship in faith, learning, and living.”  

This position will focus on providing music education to elementary students (grades K-5), fostering an appreciation for music, and cultivating students musical abilities in a Christ-centered learning environment.

2. General Qualifications:

  • Be committed to Christian Education in general (as defined, for example, in the MCS Statements of Faith and Purpose) and to Manhattan Christian School in particular.
  • Lead an exemplary Christian life, both in private and public settings.
  • Be an active member in a church that would support the Manhattan Christian School statement of faith.

3. Education and Experience:

  • Have a college degree in Music Education or related field. 
  • Possess or willing to obtain Montana State teacher certification with a music endorsement.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with music teaching experience.
  • Consideration will be given to a candidate willing to pursue course work necessary to secure state of Montana credentials.

4. Knowledge and Skills in Curriculum and Teaching:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of music theory, vocal instruction, and elementary music curriculum.
  • Demonstrates ability to teach general music, vocal music, and potentially introductory instrumental music.
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing.
  • Plans and delivers engaging music lessons that accommodate a variety of learning styles and abilities. 
  • Introduces students to a diverse range of musical styles while incorporating a biblical worldview. 
  • Develops students’ understanding of music as a means of glorifying God and expressing faith. 
  • Prepares students for musical performances and school-wide programs as appropriate. 
  • Organizes instruction to maximize student learning and musical development. 
  • Demonstrates flexibility in lesson delivery and ability to respond to student needs. 
  • Engages in professional reflection and development to enhance personal growth and contribute to the school’s advancement. 

5. Work Schedule and FTE:

  • This position could be part-time or full-time, depending on the needs of the school and the qualifications and desire of the applicant. 
  • The FTE for a part-time position is approximately .5. Full-time consideration may involve additional duties or responsibilities.

6. Compensation:

  • Wages commensurate with experience and based on assigned FTE. This is a 1 FTE position. 
  • Part-time positions may not qualify for benefits. 
  • Full time positions will be eligible for medical and dental coverage, paid medical leave, and personal days according to Professional Educators Contract Policy.
